Fil Am Christian Reformed Church (FACRC) upholds the centrality of the Gospel message, as fully expound in the Holy Scripture, embracing the reality of God’s work of creation, humanity’s Fall into sin and eternal condemnation by willful rejection of God’s work of redemption and restoration of His people through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the coming restoration of all things broken in a new heaven and the new earth. It is our desire that our local church body be spiritually transformed into the fulness of life through this Good News of God reconciling sinners to Himself, by grace through faith, and that such transformation be evident in our church life, personal lives and outreach. We consider this Gospel message to be essential to believers and unbelievers alike, and we eagerly strive to proclaim it clearly, consistently, boldly and authoritatively, seeking to apply it appropriately in the life of our local church.
As a body of Christ, we are charged with the following five essentials, described in the second chapter of the book of Acts, which should be occurring individually and corporately among all members of God’s kingdom.
1. Evangelism – (Acts 2:37-41)
We are a church who desire to be used by God in proclaiming the Gospel, with the hope God will draw souls to Jesus Christ, bringing them captive and subject to His Lordship. It is our intent and delight that each ministry of FACRC be directed to this goal whether individually or corporately, ultimately working towards making them disciple of Jesus Christ.
2. Discipleship – (Acts 2:42-45)
We are a church that encourage members through a lifelong journey of sanctification, obedience, dedication and commitment to Jesus Christ that transforms a person through the leading of the Holy Spirit, prayers, biblical teachings, and Christian fellowship to become useful disciple in the Kingdom of God.
3. Fellowship – (Acts 2:42, 46-47)
We are a church that is warm and loving, living in authentic Christian relationships with one another. Not bound by anything but a unity borne out of the Holy Spirit that we see modeled and expressed in the union of the Triune God.
4. Ministry – (Acts 2:44-45)
We are a church that ministers to other people’s needs for God’s glory through Christ Jesus. Our desire is to serve people inside as well as outside of our church community through various church ministries, outreach and missions.
5. Worship – (Acts 2:46-47)
We are a church who recognize and set the Triune God as the center of our entire worship. Our delight is to submit to His authority with reverence and awe, to uphold and behold the beauty and the splendor of His holiness, in Spirit and truth worship. It is our desire that all things be done solely for God’s glory and not our own.
As a true follower of Jesus Christ, we obey the Great Commission and believe that all who come to faith in Christ should be equipped and encouraged to grow in spiritual maturity. We believe this requires investing time in the lives of others, with personal prayer, commitment, patience, in hope that through our cooperation with God’s Spirit, they will be molded and shaped more and more into the image of Jesus Christ.
We also believe and lean upon the promise of Jesus Christ to be with us always, in our disciple making efforts, and our hope and prayer that those whom we disciple shall, through the power of the Holy Spirit likewise participate in the Great Commission of our Lord.
We encourage those whom we disciple to embrace the spirit and attitude of servanthood exhibited by Jesus Christ, recognizing that we exist and called to serve His Kingdom, and not to seek personal recognition and accolades for ministry building.
We desire to follow the principle of discipleship multiplication set forth in 2 Timothy 2: 1-2: “You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.” (ESV)
